Devil Dogs at Belleau Wood

From June 6-26, 1918, the 4th Marine Brigade, as part of the 2d Division, USA, fought a fiercely contested struggle against entrenched German forces at Belleau Wood, France. At the conclusion of the battle, a report was sent out stating simply that “Woods now U.S. Marine Corps entirely,” thus ending one of the bloodiest battles ever fought by Marines.
